National Parks are not the Solution
It is a common argument amongst activists that State Forests should be locked up and become National Parks.
They believe that stopping logging and active management in the forest will allow for it to somehow improve the forests health. Any Forester knows the opposite is true. When left unmanaged, a forest is subject to invasive weeds and feral animals. Not to mention when a wildfire occurs, National Parks (due of the thick understory) only intensifies the fire and animals struggle to escape.
You can see in the FaceBook post below, The Gurdies has taken a huge hit as wildfire tore through and is now unrecognisable.
The poster below explains our personal experience with National Parks during the Black Summer Fires. One of our plantations neighbours a National Park and, as you can see from the image on the top right, the fire had serious intensity and height. This tore through the National Park and jumped the fire break into our plantation. Due to our property being managed, the fire’s intensity slowed and dropped to a manageable low flame that private forestry employees put out overnight.
